My Wickes Kitchen - The Start

WickesPlanWe decided to look for a new kitchen in January 2013. We visited the Wickes store at Hedge End, near Southampton, and liked the Tiverton Bone kitchen. After talking to one of the staff, a home visit was arranged for measuring to enable a plan to be created, and then a costing. The home visit took place at the end of January, and then we visited the store on 2nd February to review the plan and the costings. Part of the plan is shown opposite. Note the boxed in area to the left of the window, and the position of the kitchen tap.

During the visit, we were shown the plans, and a breakdown of the cost. The costs were shown as:

Total List Price

£21,466.66

Delivery

£0

Discounts

£10,342.24

Total Product Price

£11,104.42

Installation Price (ex Specialist Works)

£2,105.00

Total Product and Installation Price

£13,209.42

There were also costs for “specialist works” which are not covered by the installation. The estimate, before the visit by the installer, is shown below. The actual estimate is further down the page, and is much higher.

SpecialistWorks1

SpecialistWorks2

What are “finishing touches” in the above? And now the actual quote:

Installer

The tiling was not done, but there was a longer length of earthing cable used, so the total was still the same.

So, since the Agreement had been signed, costs have increased on the Specialist Works by around 40%.

Also, note the date of the installers quote - 26th February 2013 - 24 days after placing the order, and the planned installation date - 29th April 2013, nearly two months after signing the Agreement.

We paid a deposit and signed the Agreement. We were told that the lead time was approximately 6 weeks, so should be completed before we had a house full of visitors for a major family event in April - deadline missed.
